:: Our Foundation

Sigma Lambda Beta Fraternity is an international, social fraternity that was founded in 1986 at the University of Iowa. The fraternity based its foundation on cultural understanding and wisdom. 18 men, of whom 16 were of Latin American origin/descent, founded Sigma Lambda Beta.

We believe in the principles of fairness, opportunity and in the equality of all men regardless of their race, culture or ethnicity. It is our goal and obligation to relay the importance of these three principles to our community, country and the world. In order to achieve this, we all strive to exemplify these behaviors and present ourselves in a gentlemanly and educated fashion.

On Brotherhood

"Since becoming a brother in the fall of '98, I have experienced friendships like no other, traveled across the country, and have met some of the most intelligent, funny and committed men on the planet! Not a single day passes by where I do not cherish our eternal brotherhood. Overall, Sigma Lambda Beta brotherhood is like an ocean. It's deep, endless and beautiful."

On Scholarship

"The education process (to become a Sigma Lambda Beta Man) was something that concerned me at first. I knew it would be a great commitment and I was afraid it would affect my grades and my social life. In actuality though, it taught me a lot about myself and my capacity to succeed. I now have a great understanding of time management, I have developed and enhanced my leadership skills and had increased my overall GPA substantially. I can honestly attribute this to my fraternal experience and obligations."

On Cultural Awareness

"Sigma Lambda Beta International Fraternity, Inc. has definitely opened my eyes to admire other cultures. A significant part of this is being part of a diverse Brotherhood where over one-hundred nationalities are represented."

::
On Community Service

"It's great to give back to the community. We have received so much in life just by being able to attend college and it's time we give as much as possible. Through events such as High School Orientations, Feeding the homeless, Immersion Trips and so forth, I truly believe we can make a difference. Having Sigma Lambda Beta support me in this effort makes a difference."
