The name of the fraternity is Sigma Lambda Beta International Fraternity. The nickname for the fraternity is Lambda Betas.
Sigma Lambda Beta is a social fraternity that promotes the awareness of the Latino culture as well all other cultures that make up the rich diversity found within society. Additionally, Sigma Lambda Beta believes in advancing young, collegiate men to become better men. This organization prides itself in upholding Brotherhood, Scholarship, Community Service, and Cultural Awareness as its principles. Every member of the organization lives out these beliefs in their school work, job, and community.
In order to be eligible for membership, a collegiate student must be a full-time student at the institution of the chapter where he is pursuing membership.
Membership shall be granted regardless of ability, age, citizenship, color, creed, ethnicity, marital status, national origin, physical attributes, race, religion, sexual orientation, social-economic status, or political party affiliation.
Additionally, the interested gentleman must have at least a 2.50 cumulative Grade Point Average (3.0 graduating high school GPA for first semester students).
Yes! Their academics will be affected positively. Sigma Lambda Beta encourages and reinforces the importance of scholarship. Your son came to college to get an education. The fraternity requires that each member maintains a 2.50 minimum G.P.A. Members dedicate themselves to having study hours, participate in scholarship programs, attend their classes, and are guided towards knowing campus resources that will assist them in succeeding academically.
Sigma Lambda Beta does not promote or condone any behavior related to hazing. During the education process for membership, your son will learn the history of the organization, develop time management & leadership skills, and connect more with the membership. None of the activities should affect your son’s ability to take care of the priorities in his life. If there is an incident in which hazing takes place, there are policies & protocols in place to address and correct the matter. Mainstream portrayals of fraternities on television shows or movies such as Animal House or Revenge of the Nerds do not accurately reflect the collegiate experience that Sigma Lambda Beta offers.
No, Sigma Lambda Beta does not have any traditional fraternity houses. While it is not uncommon for Brothers to become roommates during their collegiate experience, there are no mandates that members must live together.
Sigma Lambda Beta is one of the most affordable fraternities your son can join. We are keenly aware that our membership is price-point sensitive. Our fraternity, unlike other organizations, does not have campus living arrangements or large overhead to support. In addition, local chapters typically provide opportunities for your son to fundraise for a portion if not all of their financial obligation.
As of Spring 2021, the new member fee is $350 and is a one-time non-refundable payment that will be broken into an induction fee ($200) at the beginning of the new member’s education process and an initiation fee ($150) collected about half-way through the educational process. This fee covers materials each member receives as well as the general liability insurance the fraternity is required to maintain per member and the overall general operating costs of the fraternity.
As a fully initiated Brother, the membership fee is $135 per semester which helps fund the fraternity’s general operating costs, resources available to our members, our full-time staff, as well as the liability insurance the fraternity is required to maintain per member.
In addition, the local chapter your son will be joining may also have fees that would be required of him.
Your son will become a part of a network of men that will help one another grow, for life. College is hard, especially for students who are people of color, first-generation, or low-income. Sigma Lambda Beta provides a support structure when he is away from home. He will benefit from networking in order to get jobs or build up their career, as well as having a support system at school to keep him uplifted and motivated to succeed. He will further be able to develop into a wiser, smarter, and well-rounded man through his involvement and character development as a member of the organization.
The membership education process can last between 7 and 10 weeks which is dependent on a number of variables such as your local college or university requirements and academic workload.
A typical entity will have a weekly chapter meeting. Throughout the semester a chapter hosts a number of cultural, educational, and community service programs.
Additionally, we encourage our members to take active roles within their campus community by involving themselves in student government, collegiate sports, and other student organizations.

Sigma Lambda Beta es una fraternidad social que promueve la cultura latina, al igual que otras culturas que conforman la diversidad que se encuentra dentro de nuestra sociedad. Además, Sigma Lambda Beta cree en el avance de hombres jóvenes universitarios para poder convertirse en mejores hombres / personas. Nuestra organización se enorgullece en sostener sus principios de” Hermanda, Becas / buenas calificaciones, Servicios Comunitarios y la conciencia cultural.” Cada miembro de la organización vive estas creencias en su trabajo escolar, trabajo y comunidad.
Para ser elegible para membresía en cualquier capítulo de Sigma Lambda Beta, el estudiante tiene que asistir a la universidad donde el capítulo está establecido y tiene que estar matriculado por tiempo completo.
