Sigma Lambda Beta Education Foundation Contributes $25k for Leadership Institute

Sigma Lambda Beta is pleased to announce that the Sigma Lambda Beta Education Foundation will be contributing $25,000 towards Leadership Institute in 2019. This will reduce the registration cost from $375 to $270 per delegate for every entity that fulfills certain requirements. Each entity will see a savings of $210 in registration costs.

LIfting Up gets $50k in Commitments from Donors

In the summer of 2018, the SLB Education Foundation began its 5 year LIfting Up fundraising campaign with the eventual goal of becoming the Foundation’s first six-figure endowment fund. The fraternity’s 2017-18 Executive Board of Directors partnered with the Foundation’s Board of Trustees to establish milestones where funds were released for Leadership Institute if certain thresholds were met. One of those milestones was to get commitments of $50,000 towards the LIfting Up campaign by 4/1/2019. If that milestone was met, the foundation would commit $25,000 to Leadership Institute 2019. We are thrilled to announce that we surpassed that threshold 4 months early by the end of 2018.

“This is by far the largest grant ever provided by the Foundation!” said Chair Ricardo Zamudio. “We are excited to be able to provide this grant, and look forward to being a part of the 2019 Leadership Institute to witness the benefits it provides. Leadership Institute is truly a program that all of our brotherhood can rally behind, and we will continue working with our alumni brothers so they can be a part of making the Lifting Up campaign a success.”

“We’re really excited about how the partnership between the EBOD and Board of Trustees is evolving,” said Chairman David Ayento. “It really shows that our alumni Brotherhood is committed to helping ease the financial burden our undergraduate men face. The long-term goal of making Leadership Institute free to attend by all is within our grasp.”

“It is not lost on us in the Executive Office that our collegiate members and our entity operations are “price-point sensitive.,” says Xavier Romano, Executive Director. He goes on to say, “gifts such as this from our SLB Education Foundation allow us to reduce registration costs per delegate in a way that is unheard of in this day and age. Collegiate Greek-letter organizations are struggling across the board with cost containment. This and ongoing support from the Fraternity Education Foundation will lessen the “chapter-stress” felt by our collegiate membership with a goal of reducing such costs completely over time for experiences such as the Leadership Institute. What a worthy and generous goal!”

Leadership Institute 2019 will be held on the campus of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette between June 20th and 23rd. Leadership Institute is a biennial event designed to provide leadership training to undergraduate men of Sigma Lambda Beta. Each entity is required to send two delegates. Brothers are encouraged to contribute to the LIfting Up fund so that future generations can have reduced or free registration costs for Leadership Institute.

How is an Entity Eligible for Funding?

For the past several Leadership Institutes, registration costs have remained constant at $375 per delegate. Regular registration opens March 15th and runs through April 15th. Entities are required to register for Leadership Institute by April 15th otherwise they will pay the late registration cost of $500 per delegate. In order to receive the reduced cost of $270 per delegate (if registered by April 15) an entity must show proof of requesting funding from their local university for Leadership Institute. Proof shall be sent to the Executive Office. Once this is verified, the Executive Office will issue a $105 credit balance per delegate (maximum of 2 delegates) to the entity’s account. Entities who file during the late registration period (April 16-May 31) are eligible to receive the credit of $105 per delegate if they provide proof of requesting funding from their campus. A credit will be issued regardless of the school’s decision to provide funding to the entity. Proof must be provided by May 15. Entities who do not attend Leadership Institute are not eligible for the credit regardless if they submitted any proof of requesting funding.
