Each week this Fall, we will be highlighting the ‘SLB Game of the Week’ that features two college football teams where Sigma Lambda Beta is located. This fall’s third SLB Game of the Week is:
Michigan State vs Wisconsin
This week’s Big Ten match up features the Pi Alpha Colony (Michigan State) against the Delta Delta Chapter (University of Wisconsin-Madison). We spoke to a few Brothers about their experiences with football and their chapters.
We first spoke to Brother Rudy José Serráto Jr (Pi Alpha) to get his thoughts on the match up, “Spartans vs Badgers is a classic [Big Ten] cross division affair renewed. It’s first match up since the Spartans stole a 16-3 victory at Camp Randall in 2012. #8 MSU vs #11 Wisconsin not only offers smash mouth football for Big Ten enthusiasts but an opportunity for Pi Alpha brothers to host brothers from Madison a memorable tailgating experience in East Lansing.”
We then spoke to Brother Carlos Garcia (Delta Delta) about what football means to his campus. “Wisconsin football is a huge landmark for the UW-Madison campus and the entire state of Wisconsin. The Wisconsin football traditions have allowed the Brothers of the Delta Delta chapter to bring alumni together with undergraduates. We come together during huge games and especially during homecoming weekend, which is when the Delta Delta chapter hosts alumni weekend.”
Brother Rudy further talked about their chapter uses football games as a fundraising opportunity, “MSU Football home games provides Sigma Lambda Beta among other RSO’s a chance to raise funds working (MSU DPS) campus parking enforcement 2 hours before, during and 2 hours after the game paid hourly. Admission into Spartan Stadium for the 2nd and 3rd quarters of games was not only a perk but also an opportunity for us to bond as brothers and share some excitement during the game while our chapter makes money.”
