About Me

Xavier has 30-years of work in public and private higher education.  20 of those years serving as a vice president for student development & dean of students.  He also has operated a higher education consultancy practice focused on student enrollment and retention with a focus on "access and persistence" issues as related to increasingly multicultural institutions.

With family roots in Southern California (San Diego) and Northern Mexico, Xavier is a graduate of the University of Oregon and Santa Clara University.  His work in higher education has had a distinctive "international" component having enjoyed a Fulbright Scholar experience in Germany and consultancy projects in Saudi Arabia, Germany, and Britain.  He also enjoys significant accreditation work with the Western Association of Schools & Colleges.  Married to Vicky for 30 years; they have a daughter (also now involved in higher education administration), 3 Labradors, 1 cat & unique tropical fish round out Casa Romano!  As for Greek affiliation...initiated Chi Psi years before SLB was founded!  And Order of Omega.

Ask me about...

Sigma Lambda Beta and our place in higher education.  Higher education evolution, change & challenges.  Greek evolution in American higher education.  Working with faculty and staff on campus.  "Navigating the undergraduate jungle."  Why Sigma Lambda Beta is truly distinctive in Greek Life (it is!)...Labrador Retrievers, tropic fish, and Mayan archeology.
