Sigma Lambda Beta is excited to announce that Brother Mark Slessinger (Aurora University) will be the keynote speaker at Leadership Institute 2019 at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette. Mark will be presenting on how his fraternity experience was transformative and set the foundation for living a life well lived.
Slessinger is the current head basketball coach at The University of New Orleans where he has led the program for the past nine seasons. During his tenure, the program has experienced one of the great renaissances in all of college basketball. He has been instrumental in a renewed energy within his program, campus, and the city. Here are some highlights:
Led UNO the 2017 NCAA Tournament for the first time in over 20 years
Won the 2017 Southland Conference Regular Season and Tournament Championships
Over the past three seasons has led the Privateers to the most Southland Conference (regular season & tournament) victories in the league
Only program in the state of Louisiana to appear in 3 consecutive postseason tournaments – Appeared in 2018 CBI and 2019 CIT postseason tournaments
In 2017 earned Coach of the Year honors from Southland Conference, NABC District Coach of the Year and LABC
In 2017 was named The University of New Orleans Employee of the Year
In 2019 was named the LABC Coach of the Year for the second time in three years
Is the longest tenured Head Coach in school history
Ranks third in school history in wins
Has graduated 97% of his seniors at UNO
Has had 20 former UNO players go onto play professionally
Slessinger joined Sigma Lambda Beta at Aurora University where he lettered in basketball and soccer. He has over 20 years of coaching experience including positions held at Northwestern State University (Louisiana), Northland Pioneer College (Arizona), Central Michigan University, and Aurora University (Illinois). He served as the fraternity’s Vice President of Academics from 1996-1998.
Leadership Institute is the national training and development seminar for Sigma Lambda Beta. It is held every biennium and undergraduate brothers from every entity travel to the event.
